How to Stay Safe While Biking

Biking can be a very enjoyable outdoor activity, but like any outdoor activity, it does have positive dangers. Those dangers are not regularly a problem; you just need to be ready for them. The best way to be ready for the dangers of biking is to know what the dangers are, and what precautions you can take to sacrifice the danger.

One of the biggest dangers you face while riding a bike is a head injury. This can happen in many separate ways, you can fall off your bike as you are riding or you can hit an object that causes you to fall off our bike. Whenever you fall off your bike, you run the risk of hitting your head, the faster you are going the worse the accident can be. To help sacrifice the danger of serious head injuries the best thing you can do is wear a helmet. You should also wear other security equipment, such as knee and elbow pads to help minimize other injuries.

Mountain Bike Kids Camp

When you are riding a bike on the trail or in the road, you always want to be in control of your bike. Being in control of your bike means being able to stop in time to preclude a crash, but it also means not doing anything crazy, such as high speeds or weaving in and out of other bikers. By holding yourself in control of your bike you sacrifice the danger to other bikers you are riding with, but you are also making sure you can adapt to any changes that might come your way, such as bumps or holes in the road or trail.

If you are out riding on trails, you will want to walk your bike through any sections of the trails that you do not feel comfortable with. For example, if there is a narrow trail that winds along a sheer drop off and you are afraid of falling, plainly get off your bike and walk it through that section. It is always better to be safe than sorry, you never know what might happen if you try to ride along something you are not sure of.

When it comes to the speed you are riding, you want to go slower on trails that you are not customary with because it will allow you to adjust to any sudden changes in the trail, such as holes or tree roots. The more customary you are with a trail the faster you can go. Just remember that institution makes perfect, soon sufficient you will be riding it like a pro.

About Mongoose
In 1974, BMX Products, Inc., later to be known as Mongoose Bicycles, launched from a humble garage. The first of its kind, the BMX bicycle was named after bicycle motocross and was designed to fit the needs of the rough-and-tumble dirt-racing pastime that took its toll on wheels and bicycles. The heavy-duty, one-piece cast-aluminum Mongoose Motomag wheel was soon born, and it was the first competition-ready BMX bicycle available. Skip Hess, while in Australia pursuing his motor sports passion, came into contact with a strange and unusual cat-size animal–the mongoose. Known for its passive nature while unprovoked, yet vicious and aggressive enough to kill a threatening Cobra twice its size, the Mongoose impressed Hess, who quickly registered the Mongoose trademark for his new bicycle racing frame.

The Expert BMX bicycle model, which is still a cornerstone of the Mongoose BMX line today, was introduced in 1980. Shortly after, Mongoose captured the first ever ABA National #1 Cruiser Title. Previously known for the 20-inch bicycle, this title signaled the re-direction of Mongoose bicycles to larger-wheeled, adult-sized models. Several years later, Mongoose continues to dominate the cruiser racing circuit with six National No. 1 Cruiser titles, leading to the introduction of adult-sized Mongoose all-terrain bicycles (ATBs).

In 1992, Mongoose pioneered the full-suspension market with the introduction of the Amplifier. This design is still the most-copied suspension design in the market. Several year later, Mongoose launched the Newman adult bicycle frame, which is proven to be 15% stronger than any other bike frame in the market. The design, while functionally sound, also raised eyebrows because of its distinctive look.

In the next few years, Mongoose increased its marketing focus to dominate the bicycle industry, and more important, extend beyond it. The Mongoose brand marketing initiative makes more than 100 million impressions. Mongoose’s brand awareness increased by over 130% in 1999 and solidifies the No. 2 market share position in units and dollars. Mongoose was acquired by Pacific Cycle, LLC, and continues to grow and prosper with more than 40 models of BMX, mountain, trail, freestyle, jumping, comfort, road, and cyclocross bikes.

The destination that is chosen for your trip should be one that serves two purposes with regard to the age of house members. First of all, a destination should be one where safety of children is possible without constant fretting by parents.

There is nothing worse for parents than being in constant fear for the safety of their kids. At the risk of generalizing, the form this often takes is the following scenario. Dad chooses a destination based on his desires. It is an area with perhaps close proximity to the possible danger of water or perhaps it is the danger of places where a child could fall. His fear level is significantly less than for mom, and as a result, instant disagreement is created putting the trip on a poor foundation from the outset. Obviously roles could be reversed on this, or it could even be that you as parents may have a threshold of danger worries that might alarm other campers in the area. Even this can cause problems. Adventures are awesome, and in the mind of this author are part of the outdoor experience. These experiences should be accepted for your family, and only your house can make the ultimate call on this. The other age-related factor to think is the recreational opportunities available.

If you have teens or toddlers, the choices you might think will be different. Much of this is personal taste, but keep in mind you want this to be a fun taste so your kids will want to keep going with you. It is as a matter of fact sad when kids hit a distinct age and start bowing out of the house excursions because they don’t think they will be any fun.

As you research camping destinations, look at some of the recreational opportunities that are ready and think them in the context of your kids’ age and interests. If your kids are concerned in history, you might pick to camp near a Civil War battlefield site. Or if your kids are into water sports, you might plan for a day where you rent ski boat and water skis or raft a whitewater river. Maybe your kids like to mountain bike. If so, find an area where there are trails that are accepted to their age level and skills.

2. Make Sure Husband and Wife are On the Same Page

Guys, this is no place to be a lone ranger…you might be a lone ranger on all added trips if you do. Make decisions together on the planning for your trip. Very often, the reality is that one parent or the other (usually mom) typically occupies a more important role in day-to-day kid stuff. It just stands to think that as a matter of fact that man would play a important role in planning a house camping trip. It is a fair bet that whichever parent is left out of the planning will be unhappy with one or more aspect of the details of the trip. Your house can be a team, and to get buy-in from all, at the least mom and dad need to be in concert on the decisions concerning where to go and what to do once you get there.

3. Once Parents Have Made Basic Plans, Involve the Kids

Once basic parameters for the trip have been set by mom and dad, get the kids involved. Give them a list of win-win options. For example, you might ask them, “Would you prefer to fish on Saturday or water ski?” If mom and dad have done a good job of preliminary planning, this should be a painless process.

One added connected tip pertains to families with kids with separate interests. Rule ahead whether the house might go in separate directions for part of the time to adapt these varying interests. Other option, and in my mind commonly preferable, is to divvy up time so each house member is choosing one or two activities that the whole house does together. In practicality, this does not all the time work.

4. Make Meals Easy

As a vegetarian for condition reasons ( I also hunt and fish), I appreciate salutary eating as much as anyone. When it comes to a camping trip, without going too crazy about it, I am willing to make a few sacrifices. Kids sure do love cooking hot dogs on a stick over a campfire, and there are not too many easier outdoor meals. Put a can of beans with a hole cut in the top to warm in the fire while the kids cook hot dogs, throw in a couple of pieces of fruit or veggies, and you have some happy campers.

For more broad meals, think doing the prep at home. If you might want stew for example, make it at home, freeze it in a box that you can warm it in on your campfire, and keep it in your cooler until you are ready for it.

5. Pack What You Need – Not More or Less

This idea will be one that improves over time. On your first few trips you will bring more than what you needed. It is just a pain to have way too much because you end up having to article with all that stuff when you get there, and perhaps worse, when you get home. The reality is you do not want to be overbearing with telling population what not to bring. This is just something that will get great as you gain experience. One thing that will help is to have house members be responsible for packing and unpacking there own stuff.

In conclusion, be flexible and easy going as you plan as well as on your trips. house camping is good for families and for the environment as new generations are taught to be attuned to nature. We hope these tips help you out.
